The Giovanni Junior Award is aimed at acknowledging the outstanding contributions that youth
make to the growth of the tourism industry and the economy of Dawson City. The award is in
memory of Giovanni Castellarin, a long time champion of tourism in the Klondike and the
Yukon.

Giovanni Castellarin served on the Dawson City council, Dawson City Museum, the Dawson City
Curling Club, the Tourism Industry Association of the Yukon and its predecessor, the Yukon
Visitors Association, the Yukon Tourism Marketing Council, the Centennial Society, St. Mary’s
Church, the Yukon Order of Pioneers, the World Gold Panning Committee and the annual Yukon
Gold Panning Championships Committee, but where he devoted a tremendous amount of his
time and effort was to the Klondike Visitors Association

Award Criteria

One youth in Grades 7-9 and one youth in Grades 10-12, each receiving a $250 deposit
to a Registered Education Savings Plan account.

A youth working or volunteering in tourism and hospitality (including events) that has
demonstrated remarkable skills as a leader and role model in dealing with peers,
colleagues and the broader public

A youth ambassador within the tourism industry who maintains a high standard of
service and ethics and is an asset to the Klondike region tourism industry

Eligibility

Nominee must be enrolled at Robert Service School (RSS), or Aurora Virtual School
(AVS), or Commissions scolaire francophone du Yukon (CFSY)

Nominee must be normally resident in the Klondike Region

Nominator must be a member of the KVA
